Chlorination of wastewater prior to effluent discharge into the sea is used as disinfecting treatment to preserve salubrity of the coastal marine environment wich is necessary for such activities as shellfish-farming and nautical sports. The disinfecting capacity of chlorine results from its oxydizing property which gives rise to various chemical reactions with constituents present in wastes. ln wastewaters, highly loaded with organic matter and ammonia, monochloramine is the main active chlorine species. Due to organic matter oxydation, thèse active chlorine species rapidly disappear by transformation into non toxic chloride. In September 1989, Mr Pierre Papon, Chairman of the IFREMER, expressed his wish for a study on the issues of research in marine economy. Carried out under the direction of Jacques Weber, this document is the result of this study. Dealing with marine economy equals, mutatis mutandis, dealing with terrestrial economy: the uniqueness of the subject, economy, as that of the marine element, hides a wide heterogeneity and a multiplicity of research questions. This is the reason why eight different fields were chosen to be investigated. It was decided to take an inventory, for each field, of all the specialised research centres, and to interview their directors or some specialists. Interviews were thus carried out by sector.

Se registra la presencia del pe? Gobiidae Gobioides broussoneti en el área adyacente a la boca de la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (Caribe colombiano). Se colectaron 29 especímenes, 28 de ellos Juveniles (48-51 mm) y el otro un macho maduro (553 mm); el contenido del tubo digestivo del adulto indica que la especie consume básicamente material detrítico vegetal, complementado con pequeños invertebrados.

Distributional patterns in Brazilian Serjania (Sapindaceae)

The present paper analyzes the distribution of Serjania in Brazil, by comparing and contrasting the species occuring in three major phytogeographic regions: the Atlantic coast, the planalto, and the Amazon basin. The Atlantic coast region has the highest percent (70%) of species endemic to the area, and shares many species with the planalto region. The planalto region shares most of its species with the Atlantic coast and the neighboring countries, but still has a 33% of endemic species to the area. The Amazon basin has only a 4% of species endemic to the area, with most of the reminder species widely distributed through-out the area.

El proceso migratorio en el austro ecuatoriano no es un fenómeno nuevo. El minifundio, la mala calidad de la tierra, las crisis cíclicas de las actividades artesanales (tejidos, cerámica, paja toquilla, calzado y otras) han golpeado duramente a las frágiles economías campesinas y artesanales urbanas, obligándolas a encontrar en el trabajo extra parcelario y migratorio, el ingreso complementario destinado a cubrir las necesidades de subsistencia.

Las obras, proyectos y leyes han sido sustituidos por la vocinglería y el escándalo, mientras el cálculo político se ha puesto por encima del servicio a la comunidad.

Revision of the western Palaearctic Phanerotomini (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

Keys are given to the Western Palaearctic genera of the subfamily Cheloninae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), and to Western Palaearctic species of the genera Phanerotoma Wesmael and Phanerotomella Szépligeti of the tribe Phanerotomini. The genus Leptodrepana Shaw, 1983 is synonymized with the genus Ascogaster Wesmael, 1835. The genera Ichneutipterus Vachal, 1907; Tritoma Szépligeti, 1908; Szépligetia Schulz, 1911; Neoacampis Szépligeti, 1914, and Tritomios Strand, 1921 are new synonyms of the genus Phanerotoma Wesmael. The strictly Afrotropical subtribe Pseudohelconina nov. is revised and illustrated. Two new genera are described: Afrohelcon gen. nov. (type-species: Afrohelcon magnificus spec. nov. from Zimbabwe) and Flavihelcon (type-species: Pseudohelcon distanti Turner, 1922 from S. Africa and Zimbabwe). Six new species are described and Pseudohelcon nigripennis Fahringer, 1941, is excluded.

Three closely related Palaearctic genera of the subtribe Brachistina, Foersteria Szépligeti, 1896, Polydegmon Foerster, 1862 and Chelostes gen. nov. (type-species: C. robustus spec. nov. from Turkey) are revised and illustrated. The Holarctic genera of the subtribe Brachistina are keyed and two new species are described from Turkey. The genus Aliolus Say, 1836 is synonymized with the genus Eubazus Nees, 1814. The subtribe Mesocoelina Viereck is redefined, the three genera and their species are keyed, (re)described and illustrated. One new genus (Plesiocoelus gen. nov.; type-species: Plesiocoelus bassiformis spec. nov. from C. America) and four new species are described. Aneurobracon Brues, 1930 is removed from synonymy with Mesocoelus Schulz, 1911 and used as valid genus in this paper. Additionally the aberrant Bassus reductus spec. nov. from Panama is described.

Bracon intercessor f. megasomides Strand, 1928 (Braconidae: Braconinae) is recorded for the first time as a parasite of Agapanthia villosoviridescens DeGeer (Cerambycidae). This form is redescribed and illustrated; both species and form are new to the fauna of The Netherlands.
